At 20 years old, virtuoso violinist Tamaki Kawakubo is already a veteran of the concert stage. She has performed with many of the worldfs leading orchestras, and has established herself as a formidable artist possessing a masterful technique.

Ms. Kawakubofs 2000-2001 season in the United States included appearances with the Pacific, Seattle and Indianapolis Symphonies and the Fresno Philharmonic, as well as a recital at the Cummer Gallery of Art in Jacksonville, Florida. Summer 2000 was highlighted by Ms. Kawakubofs chamber music collaboration with Christoph Eschenbach at Germanyfs Schleswig-Holstein Festival. In the summer of 1999, she performed with Maestro Eschenbach at Chicagofs Ravinia Festival where she had previously appeared in recital on the festivalfs prestigious Rising Stars series. In recent summers she has appeared at the Blossom Music Festival with the Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Jahja Ling; at New Yorkfs Mostly Mozart Festival, and as soloist with the Mostly Mozart Festival on a tour of Japan, with Gerard Schwarz conducting.

 

Winner of a 1997 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Ms. Kawakubo began her violin studies at the age of 5 in Los Angeles. She went on to study with Robert Lipsett at the R.D. Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and most recently with Dorothy DeLay and Masao Kawasaki at the Juilliard School. In addition to her active performance schedule, she studies with Zakhar Bron at the Music Hochschule in Koln, Germany.
